Theoben MK1 Rapid FT .177

Been using this gun now for a few weeks and I've got to say that its is a fantastically well balanced and consistent gun, kneeling shoots are now so much easier than they used to be with the FT stock, the new MK5 series triggers is now a joy to shoot with, lot's of feeling, not snatching, perfect weight and the first stage is very positive enabling you to hold it on the second stage perfectly.

Being non regged I thought that the consistency might not be as good as the regged E Type that I was using but this is not the case, consistency seems to be just as good, the gun is very accurate and the grouping again is very good, I fitted a DL muzzel break which seemed to tighten the group very slightly but also looks great on the gun.

The shot count is around 160 shoots from a 280cc bottle, not as good as the regged version but more than plenty for me, I've been filling the bottle to 190bar and topping it @ 120 not sure how many shoots I am getting but I'd guess 90ish so again pretty good and more than I need to plink and then shoot a UKAHFT round with some left over for after the Comp as well or to try those missed targets once again

Great gun and it's great to shoot something a bit different from the norm, the only slight change to the standard one is that I have had the valving changed slightly to make it fast flow this seems to improve the consistence a bit more shoot to shot when shooting strings.

All in all the Rapid MK1 FT and a DL Muzzel break should retail for £739.99 so a great gun at a reasonable price and an extremely well made quality product that should last for decades to come.

Regards Rob

Nice review mate.

I was browsing airguns the other day and happened upon the Daystate Air Ranger - I do like the looks, and sounds of that riiiiiiiiiiiiikl (Sorry kitten walked on my keyboard...), of that rifle. You get a choice of 400cc or 500cc bottle. You get 250 shots with the 400cc bottle! I am finding the 80-100 shots from my S410 a bit limiting now.

Yep, as long as it aint got an Elec-Trigger, then I would not mind an Air Ranger... then again, if Air Arms do something similar....

I also do not want any fancy wood - I want something I can dink and scratch without bringing a tear to my eye.

:)

Nice review Rob.
ive had rapid mk 1's and mk2's and decided out of the two i just prefered the mk1.
ive just brought an air ranger in .22 as thats what i mainly shoot
and demon it hasnt got an electric trigger
i havn't had time to do any shooting since getting the air ranger because ive had sugery on both hands the stitches are out now and hoping over the next couple of weeks working out what pellets the air ranger likes and does't like.

Thanks Ian, I handled a Ranger a few weeks ago, I was fairly impressed, seemed like a well balanced gun and a great hunting tool.

Sweet.

I have never bothered with trying different pellets - I reckon the variation out in the field will still not stop you hitting the target. a 15mm on an HFT course, well that will be a different matter.
