Which scope?

Postby TourneySteve » 08 Sep 2009, 16:51

Hi all, just after some advice about scopes. I am a beginner at HFT, and will pop over to the club hopefully on the 20th of this month. I will ask for some advice when I visit the club, but thought I might as well ask on here too. I don't really want to pay a fortune for my first scope, probably no more than £150 inc. mounts. Any suggestions will be gratefully recieved, with regards to specific models, or fixed/variable mag etc... I've seen some BSA scopes with a side wheel for around £140, 6-24 and 8-32 ones, or would I be better off with say a 4-16 or a fixed mag scope? Hopefully I'll be getting an S400 to mount it on . I used to shoot FT and used a Leupold 6.5-20 and then a Tasco 8-32x56, but don't really want to spend that much this time(had no kids back then!!). I know that in HFT the mag is fixed at the start of a shoot, so does it matter what one I go for really?

hi steve most people dont go over x10 mag because its much harder to get the scope to focus on a 15mm kill zone at 8 yards, a lot depends on what calibre you wish to shoot, what you decide to set as your zero and if you want mil dot, map, ballistic or 30/30 reticule in the scope your best asking to look through other peoples scopes before you decide. Its really an individual thing what you prefer.
cheers
